Find out how to help your breathing

"Conscious breathing is like an anchor in the midst of an emotional storm: the anchor won't make the storm go away, but it will hold you steady until it passes."

-Russ Harris

The Power of Breathwork

Everyone experiences stress. It can be environmental, medical or emotional. Our bodies have the same reaction no matter what type of stress it is or where it's coming from. The sympathetic nervous system is triggered and the body goes into fight, flight, freeze or faint. The breath can become shallow and short, some may even breath hold. The body may tighten by clenching the jaw, raising the shoulders, or tightening muscles.Blood pressure rises, heart rate increases, and digestion slows down.

It is important for the body to protect itself during times of stress but it's when the body stays in a state of stress for a long period of time where the effects become harmful.

Prolonged states of stress can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, depression/anxiety, sleeping problems and skin problems.

Moving your nervous system from the sympathetic to the parasympathetic state can be done with conscious breathing. The more you practice conscious breathing, the more ready your body will be to respond to it.  Your breath is your power! it is with you all the time, it's free and it's yours! Your breath does not lie to you.
